Haitian 2002nd flag day celebrations
I decided this year to take a trip off the beaten path,
of parade notableslike New York. For Haiti's 202nd
anniversary,
flag day parade.
I arrived for the start of this parade at
the city hall of
Elizabeth, New Jersey. There I realized there was
only going to beyonde
float and about two dozen kids
leading the parade.
But they were having a fun time, despite the rain.
I was told that the previous year saw a bigger and
better parade. But this is the ups
and downs in the
fortunes of these celebrations of Caribbean pride.
As the community grows. Hopefully we learn to
flex our political muscle.
As the parade threaded it's way to Jefferson park
where it was expected we would partake
of Haitian
food and enjoy a festival. But the weather didn't
cooperate.
Almost at the start of the parade the drip
started
and got worst and continued as we arrived at the
park.
I would soon give in to the discomfort of a wet under
shirt, turn tail and headed for the comfort of
a dry train back to Trenton.
